Dominica is not served by direct air flights from Europe or North America. You will be required to fly to one of the following at Islands to pick up a shuttle flight by American Eagle, LIAT, Caribbean Star, AirCaribe all of whom have frequent daily flights to Dominica,:
When planing your trip to Pointe Baptiste be sure to ask your airline or travel agent for a flight to Melville Hall Airport. It is only 20 minutes drive to the Guest House. Arraignments may be made in advance with our local manager Elizebeth Edgerton ( Tel : ( 767) 316 -1205) 445- 8900 for a taxi.
Car rentals
A Dominican driving license is required and is provided
by the car rental for US$ 12 .

Roseau Food supplies Guests are expected to procure their own food, however, if requested in advance with a shopping list, the manager will purchase an initial supply and arrange a meal on the arrival . Limited supplies of groceries and beverages are obtainable from shops on the main road in Calibishie. There is a wider selection in Portsmouth, especially near the Ross University located on the main highway south. There are, fruits, vegetables , yogurts, and prepared meals available in a small market area beside the University grounds. Two supermarkets, James Store and G&A provide an extensive selection of packaged foods, Every Saturday , there is a farmers market in Portsmouth. Starting at about 5:00am this is must do activity Local farmers and fisherman have fresh produce available Toussaint, the gardener is able to procure yams and other root vegetables, grapefruits, limes, bananas from the farmers of the neighborhood He makes an excellent lime punch! If you want a more extensive selection such as lamb, ham and bacon, it is necessary to shop in Roseau about an hours bus ride away. Three larger department stores Whitchurch, Astaphan’s or Brisbanes ( Breezy Mart) carry an extensive selection of "North American" or "European" foods. .There is very colourful farmer's market every Friday and Saturday morning by the mouth of the Roseau River in Rosseau. . . A must see adventure while you are here. Fresh fish may be purchased when local fishing boats in the afternoon at Marigot, Anse de Mai and Calibishie, Lobsters can be provided , ask Sophia. Cook, maid housekeeper, grounds keeper, gardener A cook and a maid are valuable, and are included in the price of the main house. Restaurants Meals are available in Calibishie,
Climate Banks The main banks are in Portsmouth and Roseau. You may change travelers cheques or exchange US$ at the Credit Union in Calibishie. There are ATM machines in Roseau and Portsmouth The US$ is accepted everywhere and is exchanged at a fixed rate into EC$ (Eastern Caribbean $). When shopping or eating out be sure to check which currency the prices quoted are in. We accept Visa, Master Card and Traveler's Cheques as payments for accounts. Water & Electricity Security The general standard of honesty in the Calibishie is high, but there does exist certain undesirable elements, which make it prudent to take the following precautions: Valuables should not be left unguarded on the beach nor should be visible in a car, even locked. Exterior doors should be locked when the house is vacated, Money and other valuables should be kept in a safe place such as the small lockup cupboards in each house and never be visible from the outside. Doors and any unbarred windows should be bolted or locked from the inside at night. Both houses are fitted with security lights. Our dogs will bark at any intruder. |
